Best Family Photographer Columbus, Ohio: Any time I am asked about the best location for a family photo session, my answer will always be to go for an in-home family session! There are a few reasons for this:
- Children are instantly more comfortable while in their own space
- Parents tend to be less stressed
- Your family pets are there
- Your favorite place is the back drop

Your Children Are Instantly More Comfortable
When I arrive at a clients home for family photos, I like to start by playing a short bit with the kids. (Sometimes this means a quick nerf war or a game of hide and seek!) I ask them to show me their favorite toys, their bedrooms, their lovies, or their latest tricks. Then I tell them the best news: We are about to play with mom and dad and I’m even going to ask them to climb on furniture and jump on beds and sofas!
Connecting with children in their own space and being able to have them show me all of their favorite things has shown to be the quickest way to have kids warm up for their photo session.
Parents Tend To Be Less Stressed
No need to worry about forgetting something, that your children will touch something you think isn’t okay to touch or heaven forbid your child needs to use the restroom! Everything is right there and your kiddos know the law of the land!
Your Family Pets Are There
In-home sessions are by far the easiest way to include your pets into your session. Typically, when pets are brought to an outside session, they are so excited and it can be challenging to get them to calm down enough for a family photo.
With in-home session, I am able to greet your pet, give them some love and then I quickly become old news!
Your Favorite Place Is The Back Drop
Let’s just get the biggest concern out of the way right now: No- Your home does not need to look like it is straight out of a Magnolia Home Magazine! It is full of you and your family and that right there makes it perfect as it is. <3
While it will obviously be the back drop of your session, your home is not what I am there to capture. But I will say, it is fun, years down the road, to look at those photographs and remember all the little details that made up your home during that time. Maybe its a piece of your child’s art that you framed and hung on the wall or maybe it’s the chair that you rocked all of your babies to sleep in when they were little. The things in your home hold memories, and to me, that only adds to your session.
